Professor Staffan Westerlund

passed away in Uppsala on March 22, 2012, 70 years old. Staffan devoted his professional life to the legal science and particularly environmental law. He was the first doctor (1975) and the first

professor (1992) in environmental law in Sweden. Staffan fostered many doctoral students, most of them are today active as academics in the subject. In the early 1990s Staffan was one of the founders of the Nordic cooperation in environmental law research, which later became known as NELN.

Staffan will be remembered as an influential pioneer in environ-mental law research and a tireless knight of the development of environmental law methodology. His literary production is extensive.

Staffan will be greatly missed by all his friends and colleagues.
